Congratulations!
You did it. You took the jump and now you are one step closer to becoming the most confident you. Remember this is something different. It’s going to take a little time to get use to wearing a hair system. Give it a chance. A new hair system needs time to break in. Like a good pair of shoes, as you wear them they begin to mold to you, absorb your oil and become more comfortable. The same goes with a new hair system. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out, that is what I’m here for
So what now? Here are my rules and recommendations for wearing a human hair wig/topper. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to email me at hrbyitzel@gmail.com.
Human Wig/Topper Hair Care Instructions
-
Rule #1
Be patient. I know at first wearing a hair system is overwhelming and it might feel like a lot of hair. Give it a chance to break in and settle down. This usually takes around 2 weeks of wearing it.
-
Rule #2
Gently brush your hair every day. While you brush, you want to hold the front of the hair system to prevent it from lifting. Brush on a daily basis, both in the morning and evening. This prevents the hair from tangling.
-
Rule #3
Do not use strong hold products such as strong hold hair spray, strong pomades, waxes & gels. Once again, the systems do not produce their own oil, so the product doesn’t break down properly and no amount of washing will get it out.
-
Rule #4
Be gentle with the system. In order to extend the longevity of the system you want to be kind to it. Don’t sleep in it and be gentle when styling your hair.
-
Rule #5
The wonderful thing about wearing a human hair system is they require minimum maintenance. You only need to style the hair every 2 weeks to a month. When styling the hair you can use hot tools like straighteners, and curling irons. Make sure you use a heat protectant.
-
Rule #6
Use gentle and hydrating products. These systems don’t produce their own oil so you need to supplement with products that will add moisture. Such as leave in conditioners, hair oils, hydrating shampoo/conditioners.
Post-Care Recommendations
-
How often do I wash my wig/topper?
If you wear your wig/topper every day, then it is best to wash your hair once a month. You want to use gentle hydrating shampoo and conditioner.
-
Prevent fading
It is very normal for hair systems to fade in color. Use a hat if you will be spending an extended amount of time outdoors. This will prevent excessive fading on the hair. Once the color oxidizes, around 6 months, you are welcome to bring your topper/wig to get a color refresh.
-
Can I use hot tools?
Absolutely! Use low to medium heat if you are going to use a hot tool such as a curling iron or flat iron, use a low to medium heat no higher than 380 degrees. Make sure to use a heat protectant.
-
Do not out yourself!
Unless you want to, you are not obligated to tell anyone that you are wearing a hair system. It is no ones business but yours. You don’t need to announce it. Wear it with confidence. You look amazing!
